About Margarita Mix / LA Studios
Mission
Since day one, the mission of Margarita Mix/LA Studios has been to elevate the experience of post-production. We start each day with one goal in mind: to make post-production as creative, as simple, and as serene as possible for our clients.
History
The story of LA Studios/Margarita Mix begins in 1979 when two audio jingle writers from Northern California came to LA and learned that the city was in dire need of high-quality sound post-production facilities. So Sonny Blueskies and James Bunz Bredouw opened their own sound house, and that sound house became LA Studios on Cahuenga Boulevard, just across the street from Universal Studios.
But soon, LA Studios expanded into video and film and eventually outgrew the LA Studios space, so in 1989, Blueskies and Bredouw launched a second location, this time focusing on television and film work: Margarita Mix in Hollywood. The Mexican hacienda-themed facility opened with three rooms but quickly expanded to five, and creatives from all over the industry made it their go-to facility. People simply loved the Margarita Mix experience — so much so that Blueskies and Bredouw opened a third location in 1999—this time on the west side—and they called it Margarita Mix de Santa Monica.
Alas, in 2010, Blueskies and Bredouw stepped down, handing the reins of LA Studios and Margarita Mix to another family-owned business: FotoKem. A post studio and film lab both steeped in cinema tradition and technical innovation, FotoKem embraced the charm and warmth of the Margarita Mix vibe and ethos while modernizing the three legendary audio houses, ensuring the same high-quality comfortable audio post experience for generations to come.
