About FotoKem

Founded by Filmmakers

When FotoKem was founded in 1963, we were just a small motion picture film lab on Cahuenga Boulevard, blocks away from legendary studios like Universal and Warner Bros. But film was just the beginning. From the video revolution in the ’80s to the explosion of digital acquisition in the 2000s, FotoKem’s artists and innovators embraced each new technology—pioneering creative tools and methods for filmmakers, and blending art with craftsmanship to help the industry’s best and brightest bring their unique visions to life.

A Hub for Artists

Over decades of innovation and collaboration with the world’s most talented filmmakers, we gradually became more than a film lab or post-production house—we became a hub and a home base for auteur directors, visionary studios, cinematographers, craftspersons, and experimentalists to try new things and push the creative art of filmmaking forward.

The Heart of the Filmmaker

Now, after over 60 years of innovation and collaboration, FotoKem continues to bridge the gap between technology and creativity. Whether it’s color, sound, visual effects, restoration of beloved classics, or even dailies, the FotoKem team continues to invent and refine new ways for visual storytellers to tell their stories. And we do it as we always have: by seeing through the lens of the artist—and the heart of the filmmaker.
